Goodness. I really hate that I've missed, or overlooked rather -- a great deal of music over the years. As most of you know, I primarily listen to dance music and electronica. House is my main preoccupation, but thanks to the input of people like songwriter Chris Anderson, I've been sampling trip hop and downbeat much more regularly.

This weekend, I purchased Portishead's self-titled second album. Very haunting -- disturbingly so. This album was released in 1997, but -- seeing as I'm really just discovering the deeper intricacies of trip hop, I highly recommend it!

Good God -- I am totally feeling the re-launch of Jody Watley's immortal "Looking For a New Love"!

For the unschooled,. singer Jody Watley jumpstarted her post-Shalamar solo career with LFANL in 1987. An accross the board smash, "Looking For a New Love" heralded an impressive run of top 40 hits in the late Eighties and early Nineties. Watley has re-recorded/re-released the single for modern club-goers, complete with a host of new remixes that run the gamut from soulful house [BPM vs. Alison Limerick Remix, Craig Christensen Remix, Chus & Ceballos Remix] to retro-influenced dub excursions [Chris Joss Remix 1, Chris Joss Remix 2] to darkly intoxicating electro-clash [Heinrich Z Remix, Levon Vincent Remix].  I love them all, but am especially partial to the BPM vs. Alison Limerick and Levon Vincent Remixes; I also really enjoy the Roca Sound Remix!

The song is currently available for download thru the iTunes music store, but a CD-single will be released in September; I can hardly wait!

Jody Watley has long been my favorite female artist, from her early days as a dance-pop diva to her current incarnation as an ambient soul artist. I can only dream about the awesome things she has planned!
